This original Air France travel poster was designed by Lucien Boucher (1889-1971) in 1938 and printed as a lithography by Perceval, Paris. Titled "De jour et de nuit - de nuit et de jour dans tous les ciels" (editor’s note: Day and night - night and day, all over the skies) the vintage poster depicts the night lit up by constellations of stars with 3 sphinxes looking on from as many corners. A Dewoitine D.338 airliner, recognisable by its signature three engines and distinctive design, flies through the Milky Way. The world map highlights the cities connected by the airline from 1938 to 1939. Stockholm in the north, Saïgon - now Ho Chi Minh City - in the east, Santiago, Chile in the south-west and Bamako in the south. All of these cities are linked like stars in the sky to form a great new constellation. This audacious idea is perfectly executed with shades of blue and white atop a golden canvas.
