This original travel poster depicting Florence, was printed as a lithograph by Champenois, Paris and designed by Roger Broders (1883-1953) in 1921. Commissioned by the trainline company Paris-Lyon-Méditerrannée, this vintage advert belongs to its Italian travel series promoting the luxurious Rome Express line which had just reopened the year before, along with another poster depicting the great Coliseum in Rome. The artist picks out the famous Ponte Vecchio to represent the city, the iconic arch bridge that bustles with its curious shops and pedestrians. The moon is reflected on the Arno river, which looks as peaceful as the city at nighttime. The perspective gives away Broders’ observation point as the second floor of the Uffizi Gallery, not a bad choice to pick one of the world’s most illustrious museums to paint from.
